Boat and Car Rentals: How to Set Up
Tides
The Tide is crucial to pay attention to, as it determines how big the sand bars and beaches will be, and how shallow the water will be. (Also - The tide causes a 3'-4' difference from low to high tide. Low tide is every 12 hours.
We recommend buying/downloading Navionics (App is called Boating by Navionics) as it has extremely accurate depth charts as you move around the harbour and islands.
Boat Rentals
There are several ways to rent boats in Exuma - by day or overnight. In both cases you can keep boats at our day dock or overnight in our dock at the Marina Club (just on the other side of the February Point peninsula, a 5 minute walk). If you are not a boater, then you are best off hiring a captain to take you around for the day. We highly recommend Antonio Johnson.
- This is your least expensive option, but you have to pick up the boat in the morning and drop off every night. They do not do overnight rentals. This is a great option if you only want to use it for 1 day, or to save money. They are open at 8:30 and the boat has to be back by 5p. You can use our day dock at the house to load up the crew and dock during the day. You'll get a 10% coupon to the Sandpiper, the clothing and souvenier shop on their property. If you rent from them, we recommend 2 people driving over to get the boat and bring it around to the house, then loading everyone else up at the house. They also sell snorkel gear.
Boat Captains
IF this is your first time to Exuma, or you are not an experienced boater, we highly highly recommend hiring a captain to take you out and show you around. This can cost $800 for a day in the Exuma Harbour area, and more if you want to go beyond or up to Staniel to see the pigs, iguanas, Thunderball Grotto, etc.
Johnson's Getaways - Antonio Johnson - 242-357-1036
Comfort Venture Tours - Andrew Clarke - 242-357-0611
A1 Water Taxi - 242-357-0544
Island Boy Adventures 242-357-0459
The boats are all renovated or new, and are able to be kept overnight. They also deliver the boat to you and will pick it up. They'll either deliver at our marina slip C19, or to the house. Elvis and his team are wonderful. They will also do captained day tours for you.
Car Rentals
Exuma is 37 miles long, with many beaches and restaurants to explore. We recommend renting a car on Exuma, or you can hire taxis. A rental car makes life easier and enables you to explore the incredible restaurants, and the Great and Little Exuma beaches.
Berlie's, Thompson's, and Exuma Car Rentals are located at the airport for convenient pickup and dropoff.
Drivers
There are lots of private drivers who will be happy to take you around for sight seeing or tours, or to take you to dinner at night (we do not recommend driving on the Queens Highway beyond the Hotel Zone at night, it is hard to see with no street lights.)
