Communication in Exuma
Cellular phones work fairly well in Exuma. Make sure you have turned on your international cell service (Verizon is $10 per month add-on. T-Mobile/Sprint don’t require any notification, it is free to text and data, $0.25 per minute for calls.
Point of View WiFi - This is a Fiber Optic network. We have set up Extended Wifi so that it works on the dock.
Telephone is a local phone number, do not use it to call outside of Exuma.
Download WhatsApp to communicate with locals - they don’t like texting or answering US calls.
Money
Credit cards are accepted nearly everywhere.
US cash is accepted. It is about 1 to 1 US to BAH dollars.
The ATM is at the RBC Caribbean Bank in George Town. The ATM will give you Bahamian dollars but you can request to swap it out with a vendor.
Cash tips if possible - minimum wage is low and the locals are wonderful - 15% -20% is good or whatever you feel. However, most restaurants already add in 10%-15% gratuity - pay attention to the bill or ask if they only give you the total. Cash goes a long way there.
